4 Amazing Carpet Cleaning Hacks You Should Know

3 min read

When it comes to carpet cleaning, the more you know, the better. So whether it’s routine maintenance or tending to an emergency situation where you need to stop that stain from setting in, we could all use some simple hacks for making sure the job is done right.

Sure, it pays to call for expert carpet cleaning in Tacoma,  but sometimes having a few easy carpet cleaning tips at your beckon call can be just as effective at keeping your expensive floor coverings in terrific shape between visits from the professionals.

With that in mind, here are four amazing carpet cleaning hacks you should know at all times.

1. Use an Iron on Stubborn Stains

This one may not be well-known but it makes total sense. Applying a hot iron to certain hard to remove stains may be just what you need to give your carpet a brand-new appearance again. But first, you must be sure to vacuum your carpets before doing anything like this. That way you eliminate any surface dust or grime that might hinder your success.

Next, dampen the spots in question with a cloth or towel that has been soaked with a solution of one part vinegar and three parts water. Place it over the stain and apply the hot iron to the top of it. Iron across and you should start to see the stain lift from the fibers and into your cloth or towel.

2. Baking Soda and Essential Oils

Carpets can start to develop and attract strange and less than pleasant odors and when that occurs, you want a deodorizer that’s going to do the job of eliminating them. But there’s no reason to go out and buy one, you probably have the ingredients to make your own right at home.

Combine about 10 to 20 drops of your preferred essential oil with roughly 16 ounces of baking soda. Mix until the oils are absorbed and then sprinkle on to the carpet in question. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes and vacuum. You should notice a difference immediately.

3. Get a Carpet Brush

If you want to keep your carpets in excellent condition, you need this handy tool in your arsenal. It’s ideal for getting at those hard to reach contaminants that sneak past the surface of your carpet’s fibers and get stuck deep within.

Once you start scrubbing at the fibers, you’ll find that you’re bringing it all back up to the surface where it’s much easier to get at with your vacuum cleaner.

4. Blot to Absorb

Before you try to eradicate any kind of stain, be sure you get to it when it’s fresh and blot at it to absorb all of the excess moisture you can. But while this will be effective at clearing away most of the liquid or substance that’s been spilled, it’s not going to erase the potential for a stain.

To get the rest, apply your preferred cleanser and gently clean the area. Do not rub, as that could result in the stain setting. Always start from the outside and move in, that way you’ll keep the stain from spreading as well.
