Electric cars, under debate it’s now the time or have to wait for 2020

4 min read

The situation of electric cars is starting to change very seriously, and are now more interesting than ever before. In late 2010 electric cars that were sold had approved a range of about 150-200 km. Today, at the end of 2016, that autonomy has risen to between 370 and 500 km (not to mention what gets Tesla playing in another league … and other prices). Very recently, we explained to you: in a century the autonomy of electric cars is 12 times higher, but the main improvement in batteries has seen in the last 10 years.

The last Paris Motor Show can be summarized in that manufacturers are no longer working on at least one car plug will stay behind in the change that the XXI century will bring us in the car. And it is that the electrification of the automobile is unstoppable, as are connectivity and autonomous driving, and these three main axes that underpin the car increasingly near future, and of which we brought you a sample of 12 examples. This being so, we did not want to let the occasion pass without making a short video summary of the latest in electric cars, autonomy, prices and charging infrastructure:

With over 300 km of autonomy finally you can travel

Perhaps two electric cars were more prominent in the last Paris Motor Show: the Renault ZOE and the Opel Ampera-e. They stressed because they are not mereconcept car, we will see if ever they made, or prototypes with the promise to arrive within two, three or four years (if Tesla Model 3 and Nissan LEAF second generation closer in time, or Volkswagen ID and Mercedes-Benz … more distant IQ) are cars that start selling now.

The Renault ZOE with new battery of 41 kWh of capacity, 92 hp and 400 km of autonomy (well, exactly as the European approval NEDC 403 km on the engine version R90), can be ordered right away, but wait a few months until they start delivering the first units early next year. For Renault, as we told in an interview the director of the division of electric vehicles in 2017 they are going to see many more electric cars.

In addition to the new ZOE you are not already obligated to buy the car and pay a monthly fee for renting the battery, but you can also buy this with the car, not to pay dues. The downside is that the new version is a little more expensive than before (although still selling a cheaper version … and less autonomy).

But it takes a lot to improve infrastructure fast recharge

The Opel Ampera-e is also a completely real car, but unfortunately not see it as soon as we would like: his twin brother, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, almost the same car with small differences in design, can already book in the US, precisely where it is manufactured, but the Opel Ampera-e cannot be acquired until mid-2017, and is not even expected arrival date, so we could not see it until 2018.

It’s a shame because it is a mid-size car, with good boot, designed to be the family car, which is about fun and more than sufficient 204 hp and some 500 km of autonomy approved in Europe in NEDC cycle.

With over 300 km of autonomy we can finally talk of electric cars with which to make trips as long as you have obtained a network of stations quick recharge strategically placed in service areas major highways and expressways in the country, for an intermediate recharge and to complete the trip. For now still many routes to cover stations, but it is working on it and in a couple of years could change the situation.

Between late 2017 and 2020 we will see many more models get electric cars, with autonomies of between 400 and 600 km. With so I am just autonomies that price go down gradually so that (almost) everyone wants to buy one.
