What to Ask Before Your Audiologist Appointment

Be prepared for your appointment and get the most out of it!

Write Down Your Symptom History

It’s a good idea to think back to when you first started to notice the changes in your hearing and whether it is in one ear or both. Also whether there are any situations where you hear worse than others, for example in a noisy pub, on the phone etc. Even a rough idea of when things started to deteriorate can be really helpful to us in our assessment of your hearing loss.

Note Your Noise Exposure and Medications

Some medications have a known effect on hearing and your history of loud exposure at work or in leisure activities (e.g. going to nightclubs and concerts) is also important to tell your Audiologist. Note down any long-term medications you are currently taking.

Ask Whether Results Come to You in Writing

You might also like to ask what happens to written results of your test, e.g. your audiogram. If you book an appointment with an Audiologist Cheltenham then it would be useful to find out if written results of the test are provided to you. This will enable you to read through the results of your test in your own time. More on Audiologist Cheltenham can be found at //www.imperialhearing.com/audiologist-near-me/cheltenham.

Check What Happens If Something Unusual Shows Up

How would unusual results be treated? It is also good to know whether referrals would be made to another hospital or department as necessary and what would happen on your part.

Clear Up Any Earwax First

Check your ears for wax build-up prior to your appointment as this affects the accuracy of the hearing test results. A build-up of wax can give the false impression of hearing loss. You can get softening drops from your local pharmacist to soften any wax prior to your appointment.

Book With the Right Clinic

It only takes a few minutes to write down your questions and to make sure you’re getting the most from your appointment!
